Ed Winters, known more commonly by his YouTube name Earthling Ed, has opened a non-profit vegan cafe in the Hoxton neighborhood of London: Unity Diner. An anonymous supporter was inspired by the tireless work of the SURGE activism team and wanted to help the organization become financially stable. All proceeds from Unity Diner will be invested back into their grassroots activism, allowing SURGE to pursue goals that were impossible without adequate funding. With the help of hungry patrons, Surge will be able to create vegan advertisements across London and plan to one day open an animal sanctuary.
Unity Diner is serving up veganized comfort foods like Ale Battered Tofish and chips, Moving Mountains B12 Burgers and decadent desserts. Although these are not necessarily healthful foods, they offer a compassionate alternative to the junk food norm. Consumers can come to Unity Diner to satisfy their craving while supporting a good cause, rather than putting money in the pockets of fast food giants. As Earthling Ed said in an interview with Plant Based News: “Unity Diner allows people to become an active part of creating a world where compassion towards all non-human animals is the norm.”
CrazyRaw aims to enact a similar model, instead offering raw food that not only feeds the soul, but also nourishes our bodies. The proceeds of our raw restaurant will be reinvested into our initiatives. A main goal of which is opening a Vegan Education Center. Like Earthling Ed, we see that the most powerful form of advocacy is education. This will be a community hub where people can shop ethically, learn how to live vegan and interact with like-minded people of all ages, genders, creeds and ethnicities. Help us to create this reality by following our journey on Instagram, FaceBook and Twitter.
